News : National Science Week - Showcasing local research

The Central Coast Marine Discovery Centre (CCMDC) is celebrating National Science Week by showcasing local research into marine environments.

The CCMDC will present three speakers who have conducted research into local marine environments.
* Karen O'Neill - Impacts of Caulerpa taxifolia on fauna of seagrass beds
* Dr. Jason Morton - Wrasses - the rainbow fish of the sea
* Dr. Margaret Platell - Marine research in the Central Coast

Date: Wednesday, 18th August
Time: 6:30 to 8:30pm.
Venue: Central Coast Marine Discovery Centre, 11 Terrigal Drive, Terrigal
(at Rotary Park, near the Lagoon - opposite Terrigal Pacific Motel)
Cost: $5 per person and includes refreshments.

News : The Marine Discovery Centre is Wild about Whales ! - extended exhibition

Wild About Whales - extended exhibition !

Throughout July and August, the Centre will be showcasing whales - including information, samples of whale bones and relics.

After the success of the display during July school holidays, the period of exhibition has been extended. Come along and find out about the whales that migrate past our coastline each year, be amazed by the size of jawbones and vertebrae, find out what baleen is really like........

News : Marine Discovery Centre - Official Opening - 1 March, 2010

The Central Coast Marine Discovery Centre was officially opened on 1st March, 2010 in the presence of guests, visitors and dignitaries, including the Vice Chancellor of Newcastle University.

This exciting new facility caters for families, tourists and marine researchers. Strategically positioned in close proximity to the ex HMAS Adelaide Diving Wreck, the Marine Discovery Centre will play a significant role in providing interactive experiences and activities for the local community including school groups, families, seniors, domestic and international tourists and marine researchers. It will also be a hub for marine research and to share our vision of establishing a place to educate students in the care of the marine environment as well developing the Marine Science students of the future.

The Central Coast Marine Discovery Centre is open 10am to 4pm on Weekends and during school holidays.

News : Keys handed over for Central Coast Marine Discovery Centre

The Minister for Lands, Hon Tony Kelly handed over the keys to the former Terrigal Tourism Office on Wednesday, 5th August. The building will be fitted out as the Central Coast Marine Discovery Centre commencing immediately. It is planned that the Centre will open in December 2009 before the school holidays.

News : Marine Discovery Centre has found a home !

The Marine Discovery Centre has found a home at the old Terrigal Tourism Office located on Terrigal Drive. It is expected that the premises will be able to be occupied by November, 2009 with a full program of activities in place for the December / January summer holidays.

The announcement was made on Wednesday 20th May with Belinda Neal MP, CCMDC Convenor John Asquith, University of Newcastle Pro Vice Chancellor Stephen Crump and Assoc Prof Bill Gladstone in attendance.
